Pre-trial detention alternatives: best practices mapping

Written by

In many countries, alternatives to pre-trial detention are not sufficiently used and detention remains the preferred measure at the pre-trial stage of criminal proceedings. The report aims to stimulate interest in ways to avoid pre-trial detention more often and to support developments in this respect by providing valuable information and insights on alternatives to detention and presenting a collection of promising practices especially directed at legal professionals practicing in this field. CSD contribution to the report includes the collection and review of practices from Bulgaria, some of which have been assessed as promising and are presented in detail in the report.

This report was co-funded by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers
