The Letter, 30th April 2007 - n°300According to a report published on 23rd April by the Center for the Study of Democracy, corruption in Bulgaria is equivalent to the amount contributed per year by the EU. In 2006 around one billion euros was handed out in bribes, public market attributions and fraudulent exchanges of land belonging to town councils. The report does say however that corruption within the administration is declining.
